Scripture

Catholics believe that the Bible is God’s self-revelation, inspired and inerrantly written. The Bible is not like any other book. Because the Scriptures were written under the positive influence of the Holy Spirit, they are considered to be sacred literature. We believe that God is revealed through the Patriarchs and Prophets in the Old Testament and through Jesus Christ in the New Testament. God’s revelation is also entrusted to the Apostles and their successors so that the Word of God is revealed in both Scripture and Tradition. Catholics believe that the Bible is a living document—it continually speaks to believers in every age.

Sagrada Escritura

Los católicos creen que la Biblia es la autorrevelación de Dios, inspirada y escrita sin error. La Biblia no es como ningún otro libro. Debido a que las Escrituras fueron escritas bajo la influencia positiva del Espíritu Santo, se las considera literatura sagrada. Creemos que Dios se revela a través de los Patriarcas y Profetas en el Antiguo Testamento y a través de Jesucristo en el Nuevo Testamento. La revelación de Dios también se confía a los Apóstoles y sus sucesores para que la Palabra de Dios se revele tanto en la Escritura como en la Tradición. Los católicos creen que la Biblia es un documento vivo: habla continuamente a los creyentes de todas las épocas.

Mary

And the angel came in to her and said, Peace be with you, to whom special grace has been given; the Lord is with you.

But she was greatly troubled at his words, and said to herself, What may be the purpose of these words?

And the angel said to her, Have no fear, Mary, for you have God's approval.

And see, you will give birth to a son, and his name will be Jesus.

He will be great, and will be named the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his father:

He will have rule over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:28-33)


Mary is the greatest among the saints. At the Annunciation, Mary said “yes” to God and became the Mother of Jesus, the eternal Son of God incarnate. We believe in Mary’s Immaculate Conception (that she was without sin from the moment of her conception and she remained “full of grace” by the saving work of the son she was to bear) and that, because of her sinless state, she was assumed bodily into heaven. The Church also teaches that Mary is ever-virgin – before and after the birth of Jesus.


Mary embraced her vocation of being God’s partner in the work of redemption. Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is God. Jesus made her sinless from her first moment of existence in her mother's womb because of the singular role she was to play in our salvation. No other human person offers as vital and direct a link in the coming of Christ. The Magnificat, or Canticle of Mary, is the longest set of words uttered by a woman in the New Testament.

María

Y entrando el ángel á donde estaba, dijo, ¡Salve, muy favorecida! el Señor es contigo: bendita tú entre las mujeres.

Mas ella, cuando le vió, se turbó de sus palabras, y pensaba qué salutación fuese ésta.

Entonces el ángel le dijo: María, no temas, porque has hallado gracia cerca de Dios.

Y he aquí, concebirás en tu seno, y parirás un hijo, y llamarás su nombre JESUS.

Este será grande, y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo: y le dará el Señor Dios el trono de David su padre:

Y reinará en la casa de Jacob por siempre; y de su reino no habrá fin. (Lucas 1: 28-33)


María es la mayor de los santos. En la Anunciación, María dijo "sí" a Dios y se convirtió en la Madre de Jesús, el eterno Hijo de Dios encarnado. Creemos en la Inmaculada Concepción de María (que estuvo sin pecado desde el momento de su concepción y quedó “llena de gracia” por la obra salvífica del hijo que iba a dar a luz) y que, por su estado impecable, fue asumida corporalmente al cielo. La Iglesia también enseña que María es siempre virgen, antes y después del nacimiento de Jesús.


María abrazó su vocación de ser la compañera de Dios en la obra de la redención. María es la madre de Jesús, que es Dios. Jesús la liberó de pecado desde el primer momento de su existencia en el vientre de su madre debido al papel singular que ella iba a desempeñar en nuestra salvación. Ninguna otra persona humana ofrece un vínculo tan vital y directo en la venida de Cristo. El Magnificat, o Cántico de María, es el conjunto de palabras más largo pronunciado por una mujer en el Nuevo Testamento.
